Which Kobe Protros hold their value? Kobe 6s resell at double retail, Kobe 9s a third below

We compared what 153 Kobe Protro listings actually resold for with what they cost in a store. The Kobe 6 is the clear winner at about double retail, the Kobe 4 and 5 sit about half above, and the Kobe 3 and Kobe 9 mostly sell for less than they cost in a store.

Kobe Protro resale: Kobe 6 Protros sell at +109% over retail, 24 of 24 listings above retail. Kobe 9 Protros -32%, 33 of 35 below retail. GOAT and StockX sales, July 18 to October 16, 2026.

Kobe Protros are all over the release news this week. Jalen Brunson's Kobe 3 Low 'Arancia' PE shock-dropped at tip-off, he wore an all-gold Kobe 6 for the Knicks' ring night, and a Kobe 8 'Mine Grey' has been announced for fall 2027. Before the next drop, it is worth asking which Kobe Protros actually hold their value once they hit resale.

The answer depends heavily on the number on the side. We took every Kobe Protro listing on GOAT and StockX with at least 10 sales between July 18 and October 16, 2026 and a listed retail price, 153 listings in all, and compared each listing's median sale with what it cost in a store. The typical Kobe 6 Protro resells for about double its retail price, and every one of the 24 Kobe 6 listings sold above retail. The typical Kobe 9 Protro sells for about a third less than retail, and 33 of 35 sold below it.

Bar chart of each Kobe Protro line's median resale price against retail, with 95% intervals. Kobe 6 Protro +109% (24 of 24 listings above retail), Kobe 4 +53% (13 of 14), Kobe 5 +53% (24 of 25), Kobe 8 +14% (23 of 33), Kobe 3 -24% (1 of 10), Kobe 9 -32% (2 of 35).
The Kobe 6 is the only Protro line where the typical pair resells at about twice retail

Six lines, three tiers

Kobe Protro line Listings (10+ sales) Median vs retail 95% interval Above retail
Kobe 6 24 +109% +86% to +176% 24 of 24
Kobe 4 14 +53% +22% to +64% 13 of 14
Kobe 5 25 +53% +36% to +63% 24 of 25
Kobe 8 33 +14% +3% to +20% 23 of 33
Kobe 3 10 -24% -39% to -13% 1 of 10
Kobe 9 35 -32% -36% to -24% 2 of 35

The top tier is the Kobe 6, on its own. The Kobe 4 and Kobe 5 form a second tier around half above retail. The Kobe 8 sits just above retail, with about two in three listings selling over it. The Kobe 3 and the Kobe 9 are the lines where buying at resale usually costs less than buying at launch.

None of these six splits is likely to be luck: each one still holds after correcting for the number of tests behind this post (q at most 0.035). The Kobe 10 and 11 Protros had too few listings with 10+ sales and a retail price on record (3 and 4) to say anything.

It is not just the old pairs

An obvious worry is that the Kobe 6 looks strong only because its list includes 2020 and 2021 pairs like the original 'Grinch', which have had years to get scarce. Older Protros do carry bigger premiums across the board: listings released in 2023 sold a median 71% over retail, against 1% for 2025 releases and -8% for 2026 releases.

So we compared lines within the same release year. Among 2025 releases alone, the Kobe 6 listings are still a median 83% over retail (8 of 8 above), the Kobe 5 57% over (6 of 6), and the Kobe 9 35% under (2 of 21 above). The ranking holds when age is taken out.

The pairs that pull the averages

At the top, Jalen Brunson's own colorways carry some of the biggest premiums of any Kobe Protro with 150 or more sales. His Kobe 6 'Statue of Liberty' has a StockX median of $797 on a $200 retail (152 sales), and his Kobe 5 'NY vs. NY' sells for $521 on GOAT and $508 on StockX against $190 retail (656 and 651 sales). The original Kobe 6 'Grinch' (2020) sits between them at $662 on StockX against $190 retail (257 sales).

At the bottom are the Kobe 9 Elite Lows. The 'Perspective', the most-sold Kobe 9 Protro in this window, has a StockX median of $104 on a $210 retail across 1,002 sales.

The Kobe 8, the line getting the 2027 'Mine Grey', is the most mixed. Its 'What The' (2025) sells for $270 on StockX against $180 retail, while this year's 'Mambacurial' sits at $175 against $200.

What it means if you are deciding on a pair

If you want a Kobe 9 or a Kobe 3 Protro to wear, resale has usually been the cheaper route in the months after launch so far. If you are hoping a new Kobe 6 or 5 will be worth more than you paid, those are the lines where that has most often happened so far, though even there 2026 releases have not yet built the premium older pairs carry. Brunson's new Kobe 3 Low 'Arancia' has no resale sales in our record yet, and the Kobe 3 line it joins is one of the two that usually trade below retail. These are past sales, not a forecast, and not a reason to buy or sell.

To check a specific pair, the Kobe 6 page has today's median and the band half of pairs sold in, and the price checker breaks any listing down by size. For the Caitlin Clark colorways, see Caitlin Clark Kobe 5 and Kobe 6 Protro resale prices.

How we measured this

Methodology: completed sales on GOAT and StockX recorded by SneakerPulse, July 18 to October 16, 2026 (the last days marked complete on both feeds), sale prices above $0 and under $30,000, accessories and football, soccer and baseball cleats excluded. Kobe Protro means listing names containing both "Kobe" and "Protro", grouped by the number after "Kobe"; mystery boxes and the Air Force 1 'Protro Kobe' are left out. Each listing's median sale price is divided by its listed retail price (kids' listings carry their own kids' retail); the line figure is the median of those ratios across listings with 10+ sales and a retail price on record (153 of 274 listings), with a 95% interval from 2,000 bootstrap resamples. "Above retail" counts use exact binomial tests against an even split, with Benjamini-Hochberg correction across the six lines. Release-year splits are descriptive. StockX sales carry no size, so size mix within a listing is not controlled. Prices only: the newest days are still loading for some listings, so sales counts here are samples, not a measure of demand.
