Do Converse hold their value? Resale vs. retail for 192 Chucks
StockX sales June 26 - September 24, 2026. 46.9% of 192 Converse sneakers had a 90-day median resale price above retail (95% CI 39.9% to 53.9%), against 35.3% of Nike, 36.3% of Jordan, 32.1% of adidas and 31.8% of New Balance (all q < 0.01). Same-shoe resale prices rose 17.8% year over year (CI 11.4% to 21.9%, 136 shoes) while Jordan fell 8.5%. CDG PLAY Chuck 70s: 2 of 29 above retail.
Do StockX and GOAT prices move together? Barely week to week, strongly over a year
Same-shoe median resale prices on GOAT and StockX, matched by style code, Oct 2024 - Sep 2026. Week-over-week changes barely correlate (r = 0.03 with 3+ sales a week; 0.19 with 20+). Over longer windows the link grows: 4 weeks r = 0.39, 3 months 0.57, 6 months 0.66, 12 months 0.72 (95% CI 0.64 to 0.78, 354 shoes). When both prices moved 5%+ over a year, they moved the same way 89% of the time. Neither site leads the other. Over the last 90 days GOAT's median was 1.1% above StockX's for the typical shoe, but 47% of 4,148 shoes differed by 10% or more.
Do tax refunds fuel sneaker resale? Two filing seasons say no
Weekly IRS Filing Season Statistics for 2025 and 2026 against GOAT and StockX footwear resale, mid-January to mid-May. Week-over-week changes in refund dollars show no link to resale volume (r = +0.05) or same-shoe sales (r = -0.01), in the same week or the week after (all q > 0.6). Refund-heavy weeks came with slightly lower same-shoe prices (r = -0.62, q = 0.02), about -0.5% per doubling of refunds. By the last week of March, 2026 had refunded $26.5bn (13.6%) more than 2025, yet its Feb-Mar resale lift was 14.1% smaller (95% CI -28.8% to +3.6%, q = 0.32).
Sneaker inventory planning with resale data: when, what sizes and how fast
Seasonality by category (boots peak in December at 2.3x their average share of resale and bottom out in May at 0.38x; basketball peaks in October at 1.54x; running in June at 1.26x), a men's size curve (size 10 = 11.8% of pairs, sizes 9-11 = 51%), launch sell-through (35% of first-26-week resale in the first 4 weeks, half by week 8) and price erosion after launch (-5.3% by week 4, -8.2% by week 26), from GOAT and StockX sales Oct 2024 - Aug 2026.
Does cold weather sell boots? Two years of US temperatures vs. resale
100 weeks of GOAT and StockX footwear resale (Oct 2024 - Sep 2026) against the average temperature of 10 large US metros. Week-to-week changes in temperature and boots' share of resale are clearly linked (r = -0.42, q < 0.001): a 10°F colder week comes with a 13.6% larger boot share (95% CI 4.9% to 21.8%). Colder-than-normal weeks are also linked (r = -0.24, q = 0.04), with an effect of about 8% whose range includes zero. Slides and sandals show a weaker mirror effect that doesn't pass testing (q = 0.11).
Do Google searches predict sneaker sales? We tested 8 popular models
Two years of weekly US Google Trends data for 8 sneaker models (adidas Samba, Jordan 4, Yeezy Slide, UGG Tasman, New Balance 9060, Asics Gel-1130, Nike Dunk, Air Force 1) against each model's share of GOAT and StockX resale, Oct 2024 - Sep 2026. Pooled, weekly changes in search and sales correlate most in the same week (r = 0.30, 95% range 0.21 to 0.38); searches 2-4 weeks earlier add little (r 0.05 to 0.10, all q > 0.1). Jordan 4, UGG Tasman and Gel-1130 track closely; the other five show no link at any lag.
Do NBA stars' big games sell their sneakers? We tested 15 signature athletes
15 NBA signature athletes, ESPN game logs for 2024-25 and 2025-26 against GOAT and StockX resale (Oct 2024 - Sep 2026). Month-over-month changes in points per game, team win rate and games played show no clear link to a line's share of resale or same-shoe prices (12 tests, all q > 0.3). Across players, scoring vs resale volume Spearman -0.27 (p = 0.33).
LeBron vs. Jordan: who wins the GOAT debate on the resale market?
A five-round data comparison of the Air Jordan and Nike LeBron signature lines on GOAT and StockX (last 90 days to Sep 25, 2026). Air Jordan: 520,349 pairs resold, $183 median, 7,220 shoes traded, same-shoe prices -6.2% vs a year earlier (95% CI -6.8% to -5.5%). LeBron: 5,995 pairs, $119 median, 718 shoes, +1.4% (CI -1.5% to +4.1%).
