What happens to sneaker resale on Black Friday

What this shows, and what it does not

Black Friday is a volume event in sneaker resale, not a price event. Twice as many pairs change hands, the busiest hours follow the big release, and the mix tilts toward boots, runners and cheaper pairs: what people buy as gifts. The price of a given shoe hardly moves, except on StockX’s fee-free Cyber Monday.

This is last year’s record, not a forecast for 2026 and not buying advice. Our records are what GOAT and StockX published through our data feed, not every sale on either site; sale prices do not include fees, shipping or tax, and may not reflect promo codes.

Questions

Method. Completed GOAT and StockX sales recorded by SneakerPulse (sales between $0 and $30,000), converted to US Eastern time. Footwear only, cleats excluded; sealed Pokémon is StockX’s Trading Cards category with “Pokémon” in the name, graded cards excluded. Weekend: Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving) to Monday, December 1, 2025 (Cyber Monday). Normal week: the same five weekdays two weeks earlier, November 13 to 17, 2025 (155,536 pairs), matched day for day. 2024 uses StockX only (our GOAT records start December 28, 2024): weekend November 28 to December 2, 2024, normal week November 14 to 18. Releases: shoes whose StockX release date falls from the Thursday before Thanksgiving week through Cyber Monday (40,000 pairs in 2025). Prices: each listing compared with itself, log of its median sale on the day or weekend over its median in the two weeks before (November 13 to 26, 2025); listings with 3+ sales in October, 5+ in the two weeks before and 5+ over the weekend (3+ for single days), not released since October 1; median across listings with a 2,000-draw bootstrap interval, and an exact sign test (listings up vs down). The weekend tests are not significant (StockX q = 0.89, GOAT q = 0.09); StockX’s Cyber Monday is (q < 0.001 both years). Benjamini-Hochberg across all 30 tests on this page. Categories: product-name rules from our holiday planning post plus kids’ sizes (GS, PS, TD and similar); category shares weekend vs normal week tested with exact binomial tests. Map: GOAT sales with a US delivery state; GOAT published buyer locations until February 20, 2026, so 2025 has them (95,211 pairs over the weekend, 54,911 in the normal week); the replay places each hour’s pairs on 37 large cities and fills states by their running total. The ticker is a fixed random sample of 240 of those sales. Below retail: the 500 best-selling sneakers (GOAT + StockX by SKU, 20+ sales per listing) with a StockX retail price of $40+; median sale August 1 to September 30, 2026.
