NFL sneakers off the field, and do they sell more in football season?

Football sneakers took a bigger share of resale sales in the 2025 NFL season, but only because Nike released new ones. Older Diamond Turfs, Air Trainer SCs and team pairs sold no more than other sneakers.

The NFL season is into Week 5. Every fall, Nike times new football sneakers for the season: team-colored Air Max 90s, another Deion Sanders Diamond Turf, a fresh Bo Jackson Air Trainer SC. It is easy to assume fans buy more football-themed pairs once games are on TV.

Partly true, but not for the reason you might think. In the 2025 season, sneakers tied to the NFL took a bigger share of all GOAT and StockX resale sales: 0.40% from September to December, up from 0.34% in the summer. All of that rise came from new releases. Pairs that were already out before the season sold no more than any other sneaker did. Team-colored shoes and game-day Sundays showed no clear effect either.

Stacked bar chart of the monthly share of all GOAT and StockX sneaker resale sales taken by NFL-linked sneakers (Air Trainer SC, Diamond Turf and DT Max '96, and NFL team and league pairs, no cleats), June 2025 to September 2026. Grey shows pairs already selling before June 2025, teal shows pairs first sold since. June 2025 is 0.49%, July 0.27%, August 0.29%. In the shaded 2025 NFL season the total is 0.44% in September, 0.40% October, 0.41% November, 0.36% December and 0.35% January, but the grey part falls from 0.25% to about 0.16% while the teal part grows. February 2026 peaks at 0.54% with the Diamond Turf 2 'Fire Red' release. August 2026 is 0.28% and September 2026, shaded, 0.33%.
NFL-linked sneakers' share of all resale sales by month, GOAT and StockX

The season bump is Nike's release calendar

The chart splits each month into two parts. The grey part is pairs that were already selling before June 2025. The teal part is everything released since.

The grey part shrank as the season went on. Older NFL-linked pairs took 0.31% of all resale sales from June to August 2025 and 0.19% from September to December. Part of that is normal aging, and part is the summer tail of the Diamond Turf 'Ravens', which first sold in May 2025.

The teal part did the growing. Nike's Air Max 90 NFL Rivalry pack, eight team pairs at $145, hit some stores in October 2025 ahead of a November 10 launch on Nike.com, per Sneaker News and House of Heat. The 49ers pair alone sold 1,548 times on StockX in the past 12 months, 1,246 of them from October to December 2025. The Diamond Turf 'Cowboys' first sold on StockX on October 21, 2025, and peaked in December with 554 sales.

The biggest month of all was not in the season. February 2026 hit 0.54%, when the Diamond Turf 2 'Fire Red' returned on February 6 for Super Bowl weekend (Sole Retriever).

Older pairs sold no more in the fall

To test the season fairly, we looked at each pair on its own. For every sneaker already selling before June 2025, we took its June to December 2025 sales and asked what share came in September to December. The typical sneaker made 54% of those sales in the four season months.

The typical NFL-linked pair made 51%. Only 21 of 53 pairs beat the typical sneaker, which is well within what chance would produce (q = 0.97 after correcting for the six tests in this post). Comparing each pair only with sneakers on the same marketplace that sold about as often gave the same answer: 25 of 53 above.

Football sneakers sold more during the season only because Nike released new ones.

Deion's older pairs leaned the other way. 5 of 20 beat the typical sneaker, but that does not survive the correction (q = 0.07), so we call it no clear effect rather than a slump.

Older pair Platform Jun-Aug 2025 Sep-Dec 2025
Nike Air Diamond Turf 'Ravens' (2025) StockX 1,042 859
Nike Air Diamond Turf '49ers' (2025) StockX 856 527
Nike Air Max 1 '87 'Madden NFL 25' StockX 732 140
Nike Air DT Max '96 'Falcons' StockX 245 610
Nike Air Diamond Turf Proto '92 'Falcons' StockX 445 157
Nike Air Trainer SC High 'Auburn' StockX 259 249
Nike Dunk Low 'Miami Dolphins' StockX 217 239

Sales counts. Note the season column covers four months and the summer column three.

The DT Max '96 'Falcons' is the one clear riser, with 610 sales in the season against 245 in the summer. Most others held steady or faded.

Team colors and game-day Sundays don't move it

What about shoes that simply come in a team's colors, the pairs our team colors page lists for every NFL team? We matched 4,389 older pairs whose first two colors are one NFL team's two main colors, like black and gold for the Steelers. Their typical season share was 54%, the same as every other sneaker (q = 0.97).

Sundays didn't stand out either. During the 2025 regular season, NFL-linked pairs took a median 0.30% of each Sunday's resale sales and 0.31% on other days (q = 0.97).

Deion sells the most pairs, but under retail

Over the past 12 months, Deion Sanders' Diamond Turf and DT Max '96 line was by far the busiest football line on resale. It is also the cheapest to buy.

Line Sales Median resale StockX sales above retail
Deion Sanders (Diamond Turf, DT Max '96) 23,891 $124 21% (2,846 of 13,530)
NFL team and league pairs 9,198 $166 70% (5,096 of 7,239)
Bo Jackson (Air Trainer SC) 2,249 $172 67% (760 of 1,132)

GOAT and StockX completed sales, October 5, 2025 to October 4, 2026. Retail as listed on StockX.

Nike has kept Prime Time's shoes coming, and that steady supply shows. The Diamond Turf 2 'Fire Red' retailed for $170 and has a median resale of $126 on StockX across 2,950 sales. The typical Deion sale on StockX was 28% under retail. Deion, now in his fourth season coaching Colorado, keeps adding Buffaloes colors, including a Black, Metallic Gold and White DT Max '96 Low this summer (Sports Illustrated).

The Air Max 90 Rivalry pack is the opposite. It sold 4,747 times on StockX at a median $180, and 81% of sales beat the $145 retail. That depends on the team, though. The 49ers pair sold for a median $200 and the Patriots $199, while the Jets ($88) and Cardinals ($97) sold well under retail.

Bo Jackson's Air Trainer SC, the shoe Nike built around its "Bo Knows" two-sport star, is a smaller but steady market. The 'Auburn' High, in his college colors, led with 641 StockX sales at a median $179.

What it means if you are buying or selling

Last season the football effect on resale was a release effect. New NFL pairs sold in a burst around their drop, while the older ones were no busier than the rest of the market. Team colors and Sundays made no clear difference. So far this season looks similar: the share rose from 0.28% in August to 0.33% in September, led by the new Diamond Turf 2 '49ers'. That is a pattern in past sales, not a forecast.

How we measured this

Methodology: completed GOAT and StockX sales recorded by SneakerPulse, sales between $20 and $30,000, footwear only, no cleats. NFL-linked pairs are listings whose name carries "Air Trainer SC" or "Bo Jackson" (Bo Jackson line, including college and baseball colorways), "Diamond Turf", "DT Max" or "Deion" (Deion Sanders line), or "NFL", "Super Bowl", "Madden", an NFL team nickname or full team name, Barry Sanders or Dan Marino (team and league pairs). Non-NFL namesakes such as the San Francisco Giants, Grateful Dead bears and college Cardinals are removed. Price table: whole UTC days October 5, 2025 to October 4, 2026; kids' sizes included; a shoe on both marketplaces counts on each; retail comparisons use StockX listings with a StockX-listed retail price. Chart: each month's NFL-linked sales as a share of all footwear sales recorded that month. Season test: listings with a first recorded sale before June 1, 2025 and at least 15 sales from June to December 2025; the share of those sales made September to December, compared with all other such sneakers (Mann-Whitney test) and against the typical sneaker (sign test), plus a check against sneakers on the same marketplace with similar volume. The result is the same when only pairs selling before March 2025 are used (13 of 29 above, q = 0.97). Team colors: GOAT colorways (carried to StockX by style code) whose first two colors match one NFL team's two main color families from our /teams/ page; NFL-named pairs excluded. Sundays: daily NFL-linked share of all recorded sales, September 4, 2025 to January 4, 2026. q-values are Benjamini-Hochberg across the six tests in this post. StockX has a source gap from May 22 to July 3, 2026, which affects summer 2026 counts but not the 2025 comparison.
