Halloween sneakers on resale, what they cost and whether they sell more in October

Yes, Halloween pairs really do sell more in the fall. Older spooky pairs took about 50% more of all resale sales in September and October 2025 than in summer, and cost 7% more in October. Most still resell for about $110.

Every October, Nike drops another skeleton, another glow-in-the-dark Dunk, another zombie-green basketball shoe. It is easy to assume the demand is a one-week costume thing, or that nobody buys these after the release hype fades.

The resale data says otherwise. Halloween sneakers really do sell more in the fall, even years after they came out. Older Halloween pairs took about 50% more of all resale sales in September and October 2025 than they did over the summer. Then they fell away in November.

They also got pricier: the same pairs sold for a median 7% more in October than in August and September. And for all that, a Halloween pair is not an expensive buy. Over the last 90 days the typical one resold for $110.

Bar chart of the monthly share of all GOAT and StockX sneaker resale sales taken by 221 Halloween-themed listings first sold before June 2025, June 2025 to September 2026. Summer 2025 sits at 0.12 to 0.13 percent (August 0.13%). September and October 2025, in teal, jump to 0.19% each. November drops to 0.10%, and the share stays between 0.07% and 0.11% through August 2026 (0.08%). A faded bar for September 1 to 24, 2026 shows 0.12%.

Spooky pairs sell more when the leaves turn

You can't just count sales by month, because the number of sales we record changes from month to month. So we asked a narrower question: of each shoe's own sales over a year, how much came in October?

We looked at StockX listings that were already selling in November 2024 and followed them for 12 months, to October 2025. The typical Halloween pair made 7.1% of its year's sales in October. The typical other sneaker made 4.5%. Most sneakers sell less as they get older, which is why both numbers sit under one-twelfth.

The typical Halloween pair made 7.1% of its year's resale sales in October. The typical sneaker made 4.5%.

That was not a few pairs pulling the average up. 39 of 52 Halloween pairs (75%, interval 62% to 85%) beat the typical sneaker's October share. The result held when we compared each pair only with sneakers on the same marketplace that sold about as often. It also survives correction for the eight tests in this post (q = 0.0007, meaning the chance of a fluke is very low even after testing several things at once).

The chart shows when it happens. Pairs that were already out before June 2025 took 0.12% to 0.13% of all resale sales each summer month. In September and October they took 0.19% each month, and in November 0.10%. So the lift starts in September, not the week before Halloween.

The big sellers, month by month

Here are the most-traded Halloween pairs that were already out before the 2025 season, on the marketplace where they sold most:

Pair Platform Sep 2025 Oct 2025 Nov 2025
Nike Dunk Low 'Halloween Skull' StockX 76 81 33
Nike Air Force 1 Low 'Halloween Skull' StockX 43 59 55
Nike SB Dunk Low 'Mummy' StockX 41 57 39
Nike SB Dunk High 'Sweet Tooth Candy Corn' StockX 37 55 25
Nike Ja 1 'Halloween Zombie' StockX 22 32 29
Nike Book 1 'Halloween' StockX 60 54 45
Nike Book 1 'Nightmare Before Christmas' StockX 57 49 49

Sales counts, calendar months, 2025.

The Candy Corn SB Dunk High sold 55 pairs in October against 37 and 25 either side. The Nightmare Before Christmas Book 1 hardly moved, which makes sense for a shoe that is as much Christmas as Halloween.

Prices tick up in October too

Comparing each listing with itself, the median October 2025 price was 7.0% above its August-September median. Of 72 Halloween listings, 46 went up and 25 went down. For all other sneakers, the typical change was 0.0%. That difference also survives the correction (q = 0.003).

What a Halloween pair costs now

Over the 90 days to September 24, 2026, Halloween-themed pairs resold for a median of $110 (half between $87 and $170.50) across 2,613 sales. That is below the $135 median for all sneakers over the same days.

Pair Sales Median resale price
Nike Ja 3 'Zombie' 413 $101
Scream x Nike Air Force 1 Low 'Ghostface' (GOAT) 177 $190
Nike Dunk Low 'Halloween Skull' 157 $98
Nike SB Dunk Low 'Mummy' 148 $428
Nike Book 1 'Halloween' (2025) 127 $94
Nike Dunk Low PRM 'Halloween' (2021) 107 $125
Nike Air Force 1 Low 'Halloween Skull' 100 $110
Nike Air Force 1 Low 'Purple Skeleton' (2021) 64 $153.50

GOAT and StockX combined by style code, June 27 to September 24, 2026.

The Mummy SB Dunk is the one real collector's pair at $428. Most of the rest, including last fall's Ja 3 'Zombie', sell for around or under $110.

Orange and black alone doesn't do it

What about shoes that just happen to be orange and black, like the Jordan 1 'Shattered Backboard' or the Jordan 3 'Fear'? The picture is murky. On the 12-month measure they sold slightly more in October (5.5% of their year vs 4.5%, q = 0.03). But against their own September and November they did not clearly stand out (q = 0.10), and their October prices did not move (q = 0.48). If there is a Halloween effect for colors alone, it is small. If you want orange and black for game day instead, our team colors page lists sneakers in every NFL team's colors.

What it means if you are buying or selling

Last year, Halloween pairs sold more from September through October and fetched a bit more in October, then cooled in November. This September (through the 24th), older pairs' share of sales has already climbed from 0.08% in August to 0.12%. That is a pattern in past sales, not a prediction for this year.

How we measured this

Methodology: completed GOAT and StockX sales recorded by SneakerPulse, footwear only, sales between $0 and $30,000, whole UTC days through September 24, 2026. "Halloween-themed" means 288 listings whose name contains "Halloween" or a clear horror or spooky tie-in (for example Mummy, Zombie, Skeleton, Candy Corn, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, Universal Monsters, Treehouse of Horror, Ghostface); names that only use a color word such as "Ghost Grey" or "Scream Green", and pairs like the Ja 2 'Nightmare' without a clear Halloween theme, were left out. "Orange and black" means 545 other listings whose GOAT colorway starts with one orange shade and black, with StockX listings matched by style code. The 12-month test uses StockX only (GOAT data starts December 28, 2024), November 2024 to October 2025, for listings selling before December 2024 with 30+ sales; October 2024 is only partly covered and is not used. The September-November test uses both platforms, listings first sold before June 2025 with 15+ sales in those months. Each set is compared with all other footwear listings by Mann-Whitney test, with sign tests against the control median and against controls on the same platform and sales band; the price test compares each listing's October 2025 median with its August-September 2025 median (5+ sales in each). Benjamini-Hochberg correction covers all eight tests. The chart shows sales share, which is not affected by changes in how many sales we record; StockX has a source gap from May 22 to July 3, 2026. A shoe sold on both marketplaces counts once per marketplace in the tests. Sales cluster around releases and restocks, so these tests are somewhat optimistic. StockX sells new pairs only; GOAT also sells used pairs.
