Deep diveHow StockX and GOAT make moneyTheir published seller fees on the 14.2 million sales we recorded in 2025 come to about $278 million. A few shoes earn most of it, and cheap pairs barely pay their way.Data storyThe average sneakerTake the side view of every sneaker that sold well on GOAT and StockX in the past year, scale each to the same length and average them. The result is a low-to-mid cut with a white sole, and a coin flip between a black and a white upper. Then see which real pair comes closest, and how close yours is.Data storyThe Sneaker SoundtrackTwelve songs from 1986 to 2025 that made shoes famous, playing as you scroll, and what each shoe resells for now. 6 of the 10 with a retail price resell below it.Data storyPayday: when people buy sneakersDo Americans buy sneakers when the paycheck lands? We lined up 514 days of resale sales against the pay calendar. The days after the 15th and the end of the month run about 6% busier. The 1st on its own, benefit days and prices: not much at all.Data storyThe collab taxPut a famous name on a sneaker and the same model resells for 1.8× as much. For Travis Scott it is 4.0×. We measured that premium for 704 collab colourways, then timed how fast it fades after release.Data storyThe running-shoe takeoverTwo years ago, StockX's best-seller list belonged to Jordans, Dunks and Yeezys. Now ASICS Gel-1130s, New Balance 9060s and Nike P-6000s fill 21 of the top 100 slots, up from 12. We followed the same shoes month by month to see what really changed hands, and what held its price.Black Friday 2026Black Friday sneaker resaleLast year, resale sneaker sales on GOAT and StockX ran 3.2x a normal Friday on Black Friday, and the same shoes sold for the same prices. Here is that weekend hour by hour, what people bought, where it shipped, and the pairs that already resell below retail.Data storySneakerPulse Wrapped 20266,551,907 pairs, nine months, twelve cards: the best-selling shoe, the breakout, the cool-down, the brand, the size, the city and the day, all from GOAT and StockX sales. Then find your own shoe.Data storyAnatomy of a sneaker dropWe followed every one of the 66,587 GOAT and StockX sales of the Air Jordan 5 ‘Wolf Grey’, from the first pre-sale to last week. Its price peaked before the shoe existed, settled within a month and has sat about 25% over retail since. Then we checked how 451 other releases ended up.Data storyThe year Pokémon outran sneakersOn the same marketplace, over the same months, the same sealed Pokémon boxes sold for a median +67% more than a year before. The same sneakers moved +2.1%. Here is that gap, one product at a time, and the month it stopped growing.Interactive mapWhere America buys sneakersThe best sellers look the same everywhere. What each place buys more of than the rest of the country does not. We mapped 383,816 GOAT resale sales with a delivery address from this summer, and 3.9 million from 2025, to find every state's signature shoe.

Top 30 US Cities

How locations work: each sale's city and state come from the GOAT sales feed (mostly before March 2026, when GOAT stopped publishing them). The feed pairs every city name with a single state: all "Springfield" sales are listed in Missouri, all "Wilmington" in North Carolina, all "Lexington" in Massachusetts, all "Arlington" in Texas. Same-name cities are therefore merged, and some of their sales count toward the wrong state in the map, the state chart and the top-30 list. Treat small differences there as approximate. The City Lookup is the exception: it uses an older (February 2026) snapshot that splits same-name cities by 2020 Census population and labels those rows "Pop. Weighted"; they are estimates, not reported locations.

Sneaker Market vs The Economy

Do unemployment, inflation or consumer sentiment move sneaker resale? We test month-to-month changes, not levels (two series that both trend will always look related), with an autocorrelation-adjusted significance test and a correction for testing several indicators at once.

Sneakers vs Cryptocurrency

Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana against weekly resale sales and prices, tested on week-to-week changes the same way. Price levels plotted together can look linked by coincidence; the test is what decides.

Big Game Weeks vs Sneaker Sales

Do the Super Bowl, the NBA All-Star Game, the NCAA final, the NBA Finals, NFL kickoff and NBA opening night sell more resale sneakers than the weeks around them? Each game week, on its actual date, is tested against ordinary weeks measured the same way, with a correction for testing every event at once.

Holidays & Cultural Events vs Sneaker Sales

Does a holiday week sell more or fewer resale sneakers than the weeks around it? For 11 US holidays, on their actual dates each year, we compare the 7 days around the holiday with days 8-21 before and after, test that against ordinary weeks measured the same way, and correct for testing every holiday at once.
